About this work

Description

The two titles 'Heartbeat Award' 30 June 1987 (00:08:37) and Heartbeat' 27 August 1987 are very similar and compiled together on this reel. This is a video about a project to reduce coronary heart disease. The link between secondary smoking and heart disease has been established and this video aims to address the other main risk factors which relate to diet and exercise. The project is based on a successful campaign 'Look After Your Heart' in Wales. A female presenter (Therese Birch) talks to the camera whilst walking around a busy urban area; she goes into a branch of Tesco to discover how labels are helping people make healthy choices in their shopping. The award is to encourage more businesses and retailers to offer healthy options. The presenter visits a canteen; the scheme is managed alongside food hygiene inspections. At this point in time only one third of seating is designated as a non-smoking area. Healthy food options are described (for example, offering potatoes instead of chips). The presenter visits a BHS (British Home Stores) canteen. Offering healthy choices is described as being good for business. At the end, the second video shows the certificate which is being awarded and also the end credit to the production company slightly differs.
